The EC2U Mission
EC2U is part of the European Universities Initiative
The aim of this initiative is to bring together a new generation of creative Europeans able to cooperate across languages, borders and disciplines to address societal challenges and skills shortages faced in Europe.
About the EC2U Alliance
The European Campus of City-Universities (EC2U) is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual Alliance consisting of seven long-standing, education- and research-led, locally and globally engaged universities from four diverse regions of the European Union: the University of Coimbra (Portugal), Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi (Romania), the University of Jena (Germany), the University of Pavia (Italy), the University of Poitiers (France-Coordinator), the University of Salamanca (Spain) and the University of Turku (Finland).
It represents a community of 160 000 students and 20 000 staff, in direct reach to more than 1 600 000 citizens.
The Alliance’s ambition is to develop an innovative space allowing mobility to flow freely between the seven universities and associated cities. This model of openness will contribute to overcome clichéd views of regional and national identities and achieve a united and stronger Europe.
About "Science with and for Society"
Society benefits from knowledge transfer, exchange of ideas between citizens, scientists and policy makers as well as from civic engagement. “Science with and for Society”, a work package with in EC2U, supports
- European Engagement via "EC2U Think Tanks" and “EC2U Engagement Stage” where students, researchers and citizens reflect together and develop their civic engagement.
- European Talents with an "Entrepreneurial Academy" and a "Career Certificate" which are set up to foster students’ entrepreneurial mind-set.
- European Education including school research projects, internships and the "Lighthouses of Eucation".
About the Engagement Stage
The Engagement Stage is a platform that enables the EC2U consortium to build a community of action.
This community is needed to implement the fourth pillar of the knowledge square: service to society. Only in collaborating and co-creating across our alliance, across Europe and in opening up institutional barriers an impact can be made and change can happen.
The Engagement Stage is an offer to place and find opportunities to volunteer and participate in civic or citizen science initiatives.
